Mechanical Engineer – HVAC & Environmental Control Systems (ECS)
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in HVAC systems and Environmental Control Systems (ECS) to support the design, analysis, and implementation of advanced thermal management and air distribution solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and optimizing mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, and aerospace applications.
This role requires expertise in heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, airflow analysis, and energy modeling, as well as familiarity with industry standards and sustainable design practices. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-performance systems that meet regulatory requirements, operational objectives, and energy efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities
-HVAC System Design
Design and installation of HVAC systems for large commercial and industrial facilities, including systems supporting buildings exceeding 500,000 square feet.
Perform detailed heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software.
Installation of air distribution, ventilation, and thermal comfort systems compliant with applicable codes and engineering standards.
Provide technical support and equipment selection assistance to engineers, contractors, and architects.
Interpret project plans and specifications to recommend HVAC products that meet performance and budget requirements.
Prepare and deliver accurate HVAC system designs, proposals, and submittals.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, manufacturers, and internal teams.
Select major HVAC equipment that meets contract requirements:
Chillers
Boilers
Air Handling Units (AHUs)
Cooling towers
Pumps and fans
Ventilation systems
Engineering Analysis & Modeling
Perform energy modeling and system performance analysis to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Conduct airflow simulations, thermal modeling, and heat transfer analysis.
Utilize engineering analysis tools to optimize system configurations.
Identify design improvements that enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
System Integration & Coordination
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing engineers.
Coordinate mechanical designs with building layouts and aircraft systems integration requirements.
Participate in design reviews and technical evaluations.
Prepare engineering documentation including design specifications, system schematics, and technical reports.
Commissioning & Testing
Lead or support commissioning activities for HVAC and ECS installations.
Conduct system validation testing and troubleshooting to ensure proper functionality.
Verify system performance against design specifications and regulatory standards.
Develop commissioning procedures and testing protocols.
Standards Compliance
Ensure system designs and installations comply with relevant industry codes and standards, including:
ASHRAE
SMACNA
NFPA
Prepare documentation required for regulatory compliance and certification.
Skills and Qualifications
4+ years of experience in facilities, mechanical systems, or HVAC & MEP design and construction. PE license, EIT or PMP certification is a plus.
Familiarity with ASHRAE Standards. Data analysis experience that demonstrates strong analytical skills and aptitude.
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and systems including pumps, pneumatics, fans, flow meters, air handling systems, industrial chilled water, heating (steam), process piping, rotating equipment, heat transfer and thermodynamics.

Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
Strong project management and cross-functional coordination experience.
